Instant estimate using official Dutch tax authority rates

What is BPM?

BPM (Belasting van Personenauto's en Motorrijwielen) is the Dutch registration tax you pay when importing a car from abroad or buying a new car in the Netherlands. The amount depends on your car's CO2 emissions — the lower the emissions, the lower the tax. For imported cars, a depreciation is also applied based on the car's age — the older the car, the lower the amount you'll pay.

Forfaitaire uses a fixed government depreciation table based on age. Koerslijst uses the actual current market value. Your tool calculates both and recommends the lower option.

You can drive on foreign plates for a limited period. Once you become a Dutch resident you must register your car within a set timeframe. Consult the RDW for current rules.
